At the age of 50, Brenda Jones was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her world fell apart. She went from one Dr appointment to the next, endure a multitude of tests, scans and biopsy. Next came the surgeries then painful physical therapy. By the time she reached radiation treatments in 1/09, she admits to being a VERY angry cancer patient. The last straw came on the first day of radiation treatments. Brenda despised having to put on those hideous hospital gowns for daily treatments. The solution? Brenda designed and created a hospital gown alternative to wear instead! No longer would she be cold, uncomfortable and humiliated.
With the help of a friend who taught her how to sew, Brenda made a kimono style wrap and picked out a cheerful and fun pattern and used flannel material so it would keep her warm in the often cold hospital treatment areas. She called this her Hug Wrap. When she wore it for the first time to treatment, the other patients started noticing and commenting on her design. She soon began making them for the other patients…and has not stopped. To date she has made close to 500 and Hug Wraps is now a 501c(3) Non-Profit Corporation. Her ultimate goal is to reach out to other cancer patients everywhere and give them back their dignity while wrapping them in a nice warm HUG.
